Workspace
Definition: A scoped, isolated environment within a SaaS app where one team's data, members, and settings live.
What it is
A workspace is the standard organizational unit in modern SaaS — Notion, Slack, Linear, Layer UI all use the term. One company typically has one workspace; a workspace contains members, channels, projects, docs, and CRM data. Workspaces are isolated: members of one workspace cannot see another's data.
Why it matters
Workspace isolation is what makes multi-tenant SaaS safe to operate. Users want to know their data is not visible to other companies.
Layer UI in context
Each Layer UI customer gets their own workspace, isolated by Supabase RLS, with its own URL slug and member list.
