How to migrate from Notion to Layer UI

Most small teams using Notion as a catch-all (docs + fake CRM + tasks) hit a wall around 10–15 people: Notion is great for docs but a real CRM and team chat live somewhere else. Layer UI consolidates all three. This guide walks through a clean Notion-to-Layer-UI migration that most teams complete in a single business day.

1. Step 1

   Audit your Notion workspace

   List every Notion database and top-level page in active use. Tag each as: contacts/CRM, tasks/projects, docs/wiki, or other. This is your migration map.

2. Step 2

   Export Notion databases as CSV

   For each CRM-shaped or task-shaped database, click '⋯ → Export → Markdown & CSV'. Notion produces one CSV per database.

3. Step 3

   Import CRM data into Layer UI

   In Layer UI, open the CRM module, click 'Import → CSV', upload your contact and deal exports, and map columns. Layer UI handles dedupe automatically.

4. Step 4

   Import tasks into Layer UI

   Open the Tasks module, click 'Import → CSV', upload your task database export. Map columns to title, status, owner, and due date.

5. Step 5

   Migrate docs

   For high-value Notion docs, copy-paste into new Layer UI pages (the markdown structure transfers). Lower-value pages can stay in Notion read-only as an archive.

6. Step 6

   Set up team chat

   Create channels in Layer UI for the conversations that previously lived in Slack or a separate chat tool. Pin key threads to relevant CRM records or projects.

7. Step 7

   Communicate the cut-over

   Post in the old workspace announcing the migration date. Most teams pick a Friday end-of-day cut-over so people return Monday to the new workspace.

8. Step 8

   Cancel the old subscription

   After 1-2 weeks of confidence in Layer UI, cancel Notion. Keep an export archive locally as belt-and-suspenders.
