How to set up project boards in Layer UI
Estimated time: 15 minutes · 6 steps
Project boards are the operating system of any in-flight team. This guide gets you from zero to a working kanban + sprint setup in 15 minutes.
- Step 1
Create a project
From the Tasks module, click 'New project'. Pick a template (Software, Marketing, Generic) or start blank.
- Step 2
Set up columns
Default columns: Backlog, This Week, In Progress, Review, Done. Adjust to your team's workflow — 3–5 columns is the sweet spot.
- Step 3
Generate tasks from notes
Paste meeting notes into the project's 'AI task generator'. Layer UI extracts action items, assigns owners (where mentioned), and creates tasks with due dates.
- Step 4
Enable sprints
Click 'Enable sprints' to add a sprint cycle (default: 2 weeks). Drag tasks into the active sprint to commit; tasks left out roll to the backlog.
- Step 5
Link to CRM
If a project relates to a customer (an onboarding, a custom build), link it to the CRM contact/deal record. The link goes both directions.
- Step 6
Add an AI weekly project digest
Turn on 'AI weekly digest' for the project — Layer UI rolls up progress, blockers, and at-risk tasks every Friday.
Outcome
You have a working project board with kanban columns, an active sprint, AI-generated tasks from your notes, and a Friday digest — all in one workspace.
