Schema.org

Definition: A vocabulary for marking up web content so search engines and AI systems can understand it.

What it is

Schema.org is a collaborative vocabulary (sponsored by Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Yandex) for embedding structured data in web pages. It enables search engines to render rich results (FAQ snippets, HowTo cards, product cards) and helps AI systems understand page content. The most common implementation is JSON-LD embedded in HTML.

Why it matters

Pages with proper Schema.org markup are dramatically more likely to be cited or surfaced by AI engines and Google AI Overviews.
